The washington post has announced that the FTC in discussion for implementing a new way in which users will be able to opt out of some of the current ways the web sites are collecting user’s data.
"Rather than submitting their names on a centrally maintained list,
consumers would use a tool on their Web browsers to signal that they do
not wish to be tracked or to receive targeted advertising"
From our perspective on the web development side, this is a must! Users have to be able to choose what information they want to share and you websites can choose to provide the information based on their decision to share with you as well. Users need to be secure in knowing what they are sharing with websites. Websites need to be explicit on what they are collecting. A unerversal way of managing this is a great idea!
